What to See at Louvre Abu Dhabi
Louvre Abu Dhabi offers a mix of permanent galleries, major artworks, temporary exhibitions and architectural experiences. Rather than grouping its collection by country, the museum presents art and artefacts chronologically, showing connections between different cultures and periods of human history
Louvre Abu Dhabi Dome & Architecture
The museum's dome, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, is its defining feature. Built from layered, perforated geometric panels, the structure filters sunlight through the roof to create a moving pattern of light and shadow across the plaza below — an effect the museum describes as a "rain of light."
The dome appears to float above the museum's cluster of white buildings, with water surrounding much of the site reinforcing that sense of weightlessness. It's worth allowing time to walk the plaza underneath the dome itself, not just the indoor galleries, since the light effect is part of the experience.
After exploring Abu Dhabi's art and culture, continue your sightseeing with a visit to Qasr Al Watan, the magnificent Presidential Palace.
